1. How to use recommendations

Recommendations are great for promoting high margin products or best sellers that compliment other products. You can add recommendations to an individual product (unique recommendation), or you can develop a recommendation that you want to link to more than one product (recommendation group). We encourage you to add recommendations to most items - such as drinks with food, or snacks with drinks.

Some examples of recommendations might include:

• Pairing wine with a dish

• Selecting a side

• Adding a dessert

You can add as many recommendations to a dish as you like. You can also add your own individuality with how you present them, and do your own testing to see what works best. As an example, you could simply say:

Would you like to add a salad?

And provide the options Broccolini, Farm Salad and Wedge Salad for the customer to choose from. Each could have their own image.

Alternatively, you could have a little more fun with it and say something like:

Get your intake of greens for the day!

And provide the same options as above.

The beauty of recommendations is that you can also move them around to see what resonates best. Behaviourial research tells us that when provided with options, we're likely to pick from the first few choices. If you have a few different wines that you can showcase with a meal, you might choose to put those with a higher margin closer to the top of the list.

2. Set up a recommendation group

Recommendation groups are created independently, then linked to products. Use recommendation groups when you require the same recommendation across multiple products. For example, you could create a recommendation of wine pairings and apply it to all red meat dishes. You could also create a recommendation of snacks and apply it to all beers on your menu.

  1. Select the Recommendation tab
  2. Select Add Recommendation
  3. Name your recommendation group
  4. Add a display name (your customers will see this)
  5. Select the products you want to recommend
  6. Click Save

3. Link a recommendation group to a product

  1. Use the Pen tool to edit the product
  2. Scroll to the Recommendations section at the bottom of the page
  3. Select Link Recommendation
  4. Choose the recommendation group you want to add to the product

Things to remember:

  • If you change your menu (i.e. you no longer sell a product) you need to remove it from ALL recommendations.
  • Add a short but client friendly display name (your customers will see this)
  • If a recommended product has a custom availability time (i.e. a breakfast item only available until 11am) it will only appear as a recommendation during this time.

4. Set up a unique recommendation

This type of recommendation is unique to a single product. They are created within product set up pages.

  1. Use the Pen tool to edit the product
  2. Scroll to the Recommendations heading at the bottom of the page
  3. Select + Unique Recommendation
  4. Search & select the products you would like to add
